Luxembourg City is officially divided into 24 districts, and each has a genuinely different character — which is part of what makes choosing where to live here so interesting, and occasionally overwhelming for newcomers.

The historic core — the Old Town, the Grund and Clausen — sits in and around the dramatic Alzette valley, with cobbled streets, fortifications and a lively bar scene built into former breweries. A short walk away, Kirchberg is the opposite: glass towers, EU institutions and international banks.

Residential districts like Belair, Limpertsberg, Merl and Rollingergrund are where most professionals and families end up, offering leafy streets, good schools and easy access to the centre without the density of downtown. Bonnevoie and Neudorf sit closer to the station and the river respectively, each with their own strong local identity.
